EU: 50% of Energy in industry came from fossil fuels by 2022

Electricity at 33.3% and natural gas at 31.2% made up almost two-thirds (64.5%) of the final energy consumption of the EU industrial sector in 2022, according to data from to the public the European statistical agency Eurostat. The industry sector in the EU continues to rely heavily on fossil fuels, which accounted for just over half (50.5%) of final energy consumption in industry in 2022. This is slightly lower than in 2021 (50 .9%). After electricity and natural gas, oil and oil products (excluding biofuels) follow with 10.8%, renewable sources and biofuels (10.6%), solid fossil fuels (6.3%), heat (5.6%) and non-renewable waste (2.1%). Chemical and petrochemical industry: 1/5 of total industrial consumption

In 2022, the EU industrial sectors reporting the largest shares of final energy consumption were chemical and petrochemical (1,892 petajoules or 20.0%), non-metallic minerals (1,366 PJ or 14.5%), industry paper, pulp and printing (1,278 PJ or 13.5%), the food, beverage and tobacco industry (1,156 PJ or 12.2%) and iron and steel metallurgy (963 PJ or 10.2%).

This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is image-87.png The lowest share of total final energy consumption was recorded for the textile and leather industrial sector, at 1.4% (131 PJ), followed by mining and quarrying (1.6%, 148 PJ) and transport equipment (3 .2%, 302 PJ).
